Harris, Feher Register Goals In Big Red’s 3-1 Victory Over Colgate

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men’s soccer team defeated upstate New York rival Colgate, 3-1, in a Tuesday night match from Berman Field. Cornell moved to 5-3-2 on the season, while the Raiders dropped to 4-8-1.

Alex Harris netted two Big Red goals in the first half, making it the third time this season that the freshman star has scored multiple goals in a game. Balazs Feher scored the first goal of his Cornell career as an insurance marker late in the second half.

Harris got the Big Red out to an early lead, taking advantage of a penalty kick just eight minutes into the contest. Harris, the Ivy League leader in points, would add to that amount roughly two minutes later with an unassisted goal to give Cornell a 2-0 lead over the Raiders.

Colgate continued offensive pressure, and would find the back of the net in the 27th-minute (Timmy Donovan) to chop the deficit to one.

A chippy second half saw five yellow cards be assessed, three to Colgate and two to Cornell. Junior defender Wilson Eisner dribbled the ball up the pitch, finding freshman forward Feher in the middle of the field who managed to register an impressive goal from deep, which served as the insurance marker for the Big Red.

“Tonight was a better representation of who were are and how we want to play. We were incisive going forward and created great opportunities”, John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men’s Soccer mentioned.

“We now look forward to another exciting opportunity in the Ivy League on Saturday when we face Princeton”, Smith also goes on to say. The Big Red are looking to earn it’s first Ivy win on the season.
