Big Boi to headline Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey Co. on September 16

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Seven-time GRAMMY award winner Big Boi, one-half of OutKast, will headline Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey Co. on Saturday, Sept. 16.  The FREE gameday concert, located on the LBJ Lawn, will open at 3 p.m. with support from very special guest Tomar and the FCs prior to the Texas Football vs. Wyoming game at 7 p.m.

One of history’s tightest and most clever rhyme mavericks, Antwan André “Big Boi” Patton, is a trailblazer in the hip-hop scene.  An Atlanta native, Big Boi first crashed the scene in 1992 by joining forces with André 3000 to form OutKast.  The duo, regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop acts of all time, has sold over 25 million records and was ranked the #7 Greatest Duo Of All Time by Rolling Stone.  Their hit songs include “Ms. Jackson”, “So Fresh, So Clean”, “The Whole World”, “Hey Ya!”, “The Way You Move”, and “Roses”.  In 2003, they became the first and only hip-hop artist in history to win the GRAMMY for “Album of the Year” upon release of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

In addition, Big Boi co-owns and operates Stankonia Studios and has personally signed and supported artists included Janelle Monae and Killer Mike.  In 2010, he released Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, his first album as a solo artist.  The album reached #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and paved the way for two additional albums.  His 2017 single “All Night” reached over 40 million streams within a year.  In 2019, Big Boi took the stage alongside Maroon 5 and Travis Scott for the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show.

“We are so thrilled to have Big Boi, one of the all-time greatest hip-hop pioneers, grace the stage at Longhorn City Limits on September 16,” said Chris Del Conte, Vice President and Athletics Director.  “From his smash hits with OutKast to his amazing catalogue as a solo artist, it’s going to be party on the LBJ Lawn prior to the Wyoming game.”

Joining Big Boi on the lineup is Tomar and the FCs.  Tomar Williams got his start singing lead on the Chitlin Circuit with his family band in the late 1980s. In 2015, after several decades as a music producer and side man, Tomar decided to return to his roots as a frontman. He was introduced to a local instrumental band, the FCs, and Tomar and the FCs was born.

The band have three recordings, “Day by Day”, “HeartAttack”, and the latest, “Rise Above”, released on Splice Records in 2020. They have toured all over the country and have performed at Austin City Limits Music Festival,

Old Settlers Music Festival, SXSW, and in 2022, Bonnaroo.  At the 2023 Austin Music Awards, the band won best R&B act and Tomar was named best male vocalist.

Tomar and the FCs will kick things off at 3:30 p.m. with Big Boi hitting the stage at approximately 5 p.m.
