Syracuse Takes Doubleheader Over Big Red

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red took the stage for a mid-week doubleheader at Niemand-Robison Field with upstate New York rival Syracuse. The Orange took both games in the doubleheader, winning the first one 5-0, followed by a 6-0 no-hitter victory.

Game One

Taylor Posner drove in the first two runs of the game, giving the Orange an early 2-0 advantage. After a scoreless third inning, Syracuse would increase the lead in the fourth, as Madison Knight drove in Angel Jasso, taking the score to 3-0.

In the fifth inning, Cornell held Syracuse to just four pitches after all four batters made contact on the first pitch. The first hitter grounded out to Emma Antich on first, the second to Gabrielle Maday on the mound, and the fourth hitter got out on a pop-fly to Sydney Stapf in left field. Ryan Starr would add to the Orange’s lead in the sixth-inning by hitting a triple and sending Posner to home plate. A home run in the seventh by Tessa Galipeau was the insurance marker in the Syracuse victory.

Game Two

Syracuse opened up the scoring on a run from Angel Jasso, bringing the score to 1-0. Tessa Galipeau was able to find home plate for in the third, taking the score to 2-0. A spectacular home run robbery by Kate Callaway would aid the Big Red in limiting the Orange to just one run in the fourth. Syracuse added three more runs in the sixth, upping the lead to 6-0. Neither team would score in the last few innings, resulting in a no-hitter for Syracuse’s Lindsey Hendrix, her second of the season.
