#5 Women’s Squash to Close Regular-Season Slate Against Drexel, Virginia

ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 5-ranked Cornell women’s squash team will conclude its regular-season slate this weekend when its faces No. 4 Drexel and No. 8 Virginia in Philadelphia.

Drexel and Cornell will meet on Friday at 5 p.m. before facing Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Cornell, who enters the weekend with a 9-3 overall record, is looking for its first 10-win season since the 2017-18 campaign. A pair of wins this weekend will give the Big Red its most wins since winning a program-record 13 matches in 2012-13.

Last weekend, Cornell posted a 5-4 victory over Columbia thanks to a four-game victory by senior McKenna Stoltz. Fellow seniors Sivasangari Subramaniam and Alexis Shatzman, and sophomore Ananya Dabke each won in three games for the Big Red, increasing the program’s best Ivy League record in program history at 5-3.

Scouting Drexel

Drexel, who is right ahead of Cornell in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings, has a 10-2 record on the year.

The Dragons are coming off claiming the Gaynor Cup for a second consecutive season after defeating Virginia, 6-3, at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships in Charlottesville, Va.

Drexel’s lone pair of losses on the year came to top-ranked Trinity, 5-4, on Jan. 19, and to then-No. 4 Princeton, 7-2, on Jan. 25.

Scouting Virginia

The Cavaliers enter the weekend with a 10-4 overall mark, having lost to Drexel twice, as well as to Ivy League opponents, Yale and Harvard.

Virginia’s last eight wins have come in sweeps.

When Cornell and Virginia play on Sunday, it will be the Cavaliers’ three match in as many days. Virginia will play at Penn on Friday before heading to Princeton on Saturday.

Looking Ahead

Following this weekend’s matches, Cornell will head to the College Squash Association National Championships, which will be held in Philadelphia on Feb. 17-19.
