Baseball Announces The Hiring of Joe Haumacher
PRINCETON – The Princeton Baseball Team has announced the hiring of Joe Haumacher as pitching coach.
“Being hired to lead the Tiger pitching staff is an honor,” said Haumacher. “Princeton student athletes demand an experience second to none. To fulfill this expectation, coaches must be prepared to mentor athletes in matters of athletic, social and personal excellence. In this role I not only hope to demonstrate wisdom gained through my last decade plus of experience but I also hope to be challenged by the Princeton community to improve as a coach and leader.
Haumacher comes to Princeton after spending three years with the Baltimore Orioles and the No. 1 farm system in Major League Baseball. On the field, Haumacher used industry leading technology to develop players from seven different countries as an affiliate pitching coach. Off the field, he collaborated with scouting on amateur draft player acquisitions and helped design the department’s in-house delivery model for MLB Draft prospects.
A native of Middlesex, New Jersey, Haumacher played NCAA Division-I baseball at Wofford College and Old Dominion University, where he earned his Bachelor of Art degree in Communication in 2011.
Following his collegiate career, Haumacher played professional baseball for three seasons in New Mexico (Pecos League) and New Jersey (CanAm League, Atlantic League). After his playing career, he moved on to coaching and was the manager of the Orange County Surf, a collegiate league based in California in 2015 and 2017, leading the team to titles in both seasons. He also served one season as the pitching coach at Raritan Valley Community College (Branchburg, N.J.).
In addition, Haumacher spent four years working with world-renowned pitching guru Tom House and the National Pitching Association at the University of Southern California. As a rotational athlete specialist, Haumacher worked with several professional baseball players, including Jaime Garcia, Jason Hammel and Ryan Sherriff, guiding them through arm rehabilitations, training regimens and delivery adjustments.
Following his time in southern California, Haumacher returned to the college ranks at Amherst College as well as Dixie State University. At Amherst, he was a part of the 2018 NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year following the Mammoths’ regular & postseason NESCAC championships. As pitching coach, the Amherst pitching staff led the NESCAC in ERA (25th nationally and hits per nine innings (12th nationally) and WHIP.
Under his leadership at Dixie State, pitchers set seven school records while maintaining 100% health for Trailblazer throughout the staff. With the help of an analytics team built by Haumacher, the pitching staff finished second best in 2019 after finishing 2nd worst in 2018.
Additionally, Haumacher spent summer 2018 as pitching coach for Wisconsin Rapids of the Northwoods Summer Collegiate League. While with the Rafters, Haumacher mentored four pitchers who were offered professional contracts.
