Big Red Football Slotted Eighth In Ivy Preseason Media Poll

ITHACA, N.Y. — A tale as old as time … the Ivy League media slots Cornell in the preseason conference media poll, the Big Red exceeds that finish. No reason to think Cornell won’t make it seven times in the last eight seasons.

Cornell was picked to finish eighth in the 2022 Ivy League Football Preseason Media Poll that was announced today. The Big Red will kick off the new campaign with its sights set on having a much bigger impact on the league standings when it visits VMI on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in Lexington, Va. Cornell opens Ivy League play the following weekend at home against Yale at Schoellkopf Field.

Harvard (108 points, four first-place votes) and Dartmouth (108 points, four first-place votes) ended tied for first when the ballots were counted up, with Princeton a narrow third (105 points, four first-place votes). Yale (83 points and Columbia (67 points) were also chosen in the top five, with Penn (49 points), Brown (29 points) and the Big Red (27 points) rounding out the field. Two media members from each of the eight schools and one national media member voted.

The Big Red has surpassed its preseason predicted finish in six of the last seven seasons, including in 2021 when it was picked to place eighth only to tie for sixth.

The loss of 51 seniors makes Cornell easy to overlook, but the return of first-team all-conference choices Thomas Glover at wide receiver and Jake Stebbins at linebacker will make the Big Red a team to ignore at your own peril.
