Men’s Lacrosse Tabbed Third in Ivy League Preseason Poll
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men’s lacrosse team has been predicted to finish third in the conference this season per the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.
Having posted a 5-0 record and surging to as high as #2 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches’ and the Inside Lacrosse/Maverik Media Polls in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19, the Big Red comes in among the top-three teams in the Ivy League preseason with 70 points and one first place vote.
After finishing as the national runner up during the league’s last full season in 2019, Yale was picked as the preseason conference favorite, receiving 13 of the possible 14 first place votes and tallying 95 points. Defending Ivy League regular season and tournament champion Penn was chosen second with 82 points.
The Bulldogs, Quakers, and Big Red all enter the season ranked among the top-20 teams nationally, with Yale coming in at #7, Penn at #8, and Cornell at #15 in the USILA Preseason Poll. Princeton, who was chosen fourth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll with 59 points, was also among the teams on the USILA Preseason Poll, being tabbed 18th.
Brown was chosen fifth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll with 43 points, while Harvard (28) and Dartmouth (15) rounded out the poll, being selected sixth and seventh, respectively.
During the Big Red’s last full season in 2019, Cornell finished in third place in the Ivy League with a 10-5 overall and 4-2 conference record, qualifying for its eighth Ivy League Tournament in its 10-season history.
The Ivy League Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll was selected by a vote of the conference sports information directors and one media member from each school.
The Cornell men’s lacrosse team will open its season against UAlbany on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, N.Y.
