Sean Episcope made his third start of the season for the Tigers. The first batter he faced struck out, but went down as a wild pitch allowed the batter to reach first. Back to back walks loaded the bases for the Rams as the cleanup hitter launched a sacrifice fly to plate a run. Just one batter later VCU hit a three-run homer to center field to clear the bases and claim a four run lead.
Those four would be just enough as both teams combined for just three hits on the day.
Episcope tossed 5.0 innings and struck out six in the outing.
Princeton logged its first hit on a Tommy Googins single in the top of the sixth. Grant Werdesheim replaced him on the basepaths on a fielder’s choice before stealing second but was left stranded.
Jake Bold registered the other base hit knock in the top of the seventh but the Tigers were unable to capitalize.
Elliott Eaton pitched a strong 3.0 innings of work, allowing just three walks, no hits and had one punchout.
The Tigers will be back on the field tomorrow against the Rams with first pitch set for 2:00 PM.
