Ruiz Earns Wrestler of the Week Honors From the Ivy League
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell wrestling’s Simon Ruiz has been named the Ivy League’s Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. This is his second accolade from the league this season.
The freshman collected two Ivy wins over the weekend against Princeton and Penn in route to a team Ivy Championship title.
No. 11 Ruiz defeated Xavier Giles 17-2 by technical fall at 3:40 by racking up a pair of takedowns and a near fall in the first period before adding a two more quick takedowns and an escape in the second.
Then, on Sunday, Ruiz pulled off an upset against No. 10 Nick Incontrera of Penn. In a tight, nail-biting match, Ruiz came out on top with a 4-3 victory.
