Shapiro Earns Ivy Honors – Cornell University Athletics
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell wrestling’s Meyer Shapiro has been named the Ivy League’s Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The All-American is the third athlete to earn the weekly honor for the Big Red after Simon Ruiz (12/10) and Justin Mayes (12/3) was named earlier this season.
No. 2 Shapiro returned to the mat for his first dual of the season with an 18-3 victory over No.10 Ed Scott that included 4:33 minutes of riding time. Shapiro opened the 157lb bout with two takedowns to get out to an early lead of 6-2 before Scott was disqualified in the third period for stalling violations.
