Women’s Track and Field Head to Cortland Classic

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women’s track and field will take a short trip to Cortland for the Cortland Classic at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex on Friday and Saturday.

MEET INFO

The Cortland Classic is a two-day event with the women starting on Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the pole vault and then 4:30 p.m. with the 3000m steeplechase.

All live events will be updated on leonetiming.com after each event.

Hartwick, Oswego State, SUNY Delhi, SUNY ESF, Utica and the host Cortland are a few of the competitors that the Big Red will face.

THE RANKINGS

Cornell men’s track and field remain in second in the Northeast region of the USTFCCCA Regional Track & Field Rating Index and in the Ivy League only behind Princeton.

The pole vault squad is ranked 11th in the nation as the 5000m group ranked 17th, triple jump at 18th and the shot put ranked 20th through three weeks.

LAST TIME OUT

Cornell women’s track and field attended the Bison Outdoor Classic and South Florida Invitational.

The weekend was highlighted by Avery Hilliard in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 4.21m, a mark that not only earned her first place, but also set a new school record and facility record at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

On the track, Mairead Clas competed in the 1500m, crossing the line in 4:25.37 to take second place.

In the field events, Avery Hastings launched a huge 55.21m throw to place second. Johanna Stuard secured a second-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.58m and Anika Sukumar leaped 12.04 meters in the triple jump, earning a fifth-place finish.

Down in warmer conditions at the South Florida Invitational, sprinter-hurdler Elise Sawyer ran the 400m hurdles, finishing second in 59.92.

Tia Taylor pulled double duty with a sixth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (13.92) and a ninth-place mark in the long jump (5.83m).

Cornell will take on the Penn Relays facing colleges from over 30 states and multiple countries on April 24-26.
