Volleyball heads to Indiana for the Popcorn Classic
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell volleyball team (2-1) continues its 2024 season this weekend at the Popcorn Classic in Valparaiso, Indiana.
The Big Red will face Purdue Fort Wayne and host Valparaiso on Friday before meeting with Miami (OH) Saturday. The match against Valpo on Friday at 6 p.m. CT will be streamed on ESPN+.

KRISTEN DICKMANN INVITATIONAL RECAP
- Cornell went 2-1 over its season-opening Kristen Dickmann Invitational.
- Eliza Konvicka was named to the KDI All-Tournament Team.
- The Big Red picked up sweeps of Liberty and Navy.
- Konvicka led offensive notching 38 kills (3.80 kills/set) with 22 digs and five aces on a .289 hitting percentage.
- Jaida Sione marked 27 kills (2.70 kills/set) and six blocks.
- Freshmen Haley Clark, Mackenzie Parsons, Trinidy Tien and Kohanihokuao Misipeka made their Big Red debut.
- Clark led the team with 25 digs on top of totaling 25 kills (2.78 kills/set) and eight aces.
- Parsons chipped in 13 kills with 14 blocks, hitting .316.
- Doga Ozalp dished out 94 assists (9.40 assists/set) over the tournament.
- With 16 blocks, Camryn Carlo led the team averaging 1.78 block/set.
SCOUTING PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Friday’s match between the Big Red and Mastodons will be only the third all-time meeting. Purdue Fort Wayne started the season 3-3 (.500). They appeared at the Skyhawk Invitational (3-0) and the Leatherneck Classic (0-3). In their last game against unbeaten SDSU, IPFW took one set from the Jackrabbits led by Panna Ratkai and Riley Rosneck with combined 33 kills. Londynn Betts match-high 26 digs to represent the defense.
SCOUTING VALPARAISO
Valpo’s opening tournament slate included the Hampton Inn Invitational and St.Thomas Invitational. Both tournaments Valpo had a pair of Beacons earn All-Tournament honors. At the St. Thomas Invite, Sam Warren averaged 2.50 kills/set on .313 hitting and also was in on five blocks. Elise Swistek averaged 2.69 kills/set and 3.62 digs/set while also chipping in on five blocks. Of Swistek’s 46 digs, 21 were converted into kills, an impressive 45.7% rate.
SCOUTING MIAMI
The final match that will be held on Sunday will be the first meeting between Cornell and Miami OH. The Redhawks started the season at the Norfolk State Invitational (3-0) and Evansville Invitational (1-2). During the final match against the tournament host Evansville, the RedHawks totaled 52 kills. 16 came from freshman Ana Vetter to set a career-high. On the defensive side, Caroline Cermack dug up 12 balls for the RedHawks.

Cornell returns to the East Hill to host Binghamton University at Newman Arena. The first home game will be on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
