Green Grabs Second in A Division as Big Red Sailing Earns Sixth in Women’s Fleet Racing Nationals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Junior Bridget Green led the pack for the Cornell sailing team, finishing second overall in Division A to help the Big Red to a sixth-place finish in the Women’s Fleet Racing National Finals on Thursday from the waters of the Charles River. Green’s performance is one for the record books, as her runner-up finish is now the best in program history. Alongside that honor, the New Jersey product is also Cornell’s first Women Sailor of the Year award finalist in program history.
Focusing on the A Division, Green served as the skipper while classmate Amelia Neumann and sophomore Sophia Mulvania shared crew duties. The trio put together a late surge after sitting comfortably in third throughout most of the race, racing up to take a share of second in the division with Stanford at 111 points, 14 points behind the top finisher in Dartmouth. Harvard (136 points) and Georgetown (142 points) rounded out the top five. Green, Neumann, and Mulvania also earned ten top-five finishes over the 17 races with four coming over the final five.
Shifting over to the B Division, sophomore Sophia Devling skippered 11 races, including the opening seven and final four. Freshman Windborne Majette stepping into the role for seven. Kit Harned, Kate Moran, Neumann, and Sophia Pearce made up the crew lineup, pushing Cornell to a 12th-place outing with 170 points, 20 more than Tulane. The Big Red also won the sixth race and finished in the top five or better in three others. Boston College took home the top spot in the B Division with 78 points, followed by Yale (92), Stanford (96), Brown (128), and Dartmouth (139).
Action will continue on the water tomorrow afternoon in the Open National Semifinals with Cornell competing in the Western Division. Coverage is set to begin at 10 a.m. exclusively on ESPN Plus.
