Baseball Totals Five All-Ivy Honorees, Fang Takes Pitcher of the Year
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball sophomore Callan Fang, senior Ben Rounds, junior Sean Matson, junior William Lybrook, and first-year Jack Rickheim have all earned All-Ivy honors while Fang took home Ivy League Pitcher of the Year accolades, the Ivy League conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Fang – who gained Ivy League Rookie of the Year last season – captured Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Ivy as a starting pitcher, and Honorable Mention All-Ivy as a utility player. Rounds claimed unanimous First Team All-Ivy laurels as an outfielder while Matson – as a starting pitcher – and Lybrook – as a catcher – each collected Second Team All-Ivy honors. Rickheim gained Honorable Mention All-Ivy as a shortstop while senior Jake Berger garnered Academic All-Ivy plaudits.
Fang becomes Harvard’s first Ivy League Pitcher of the Year since Noah Zavolas ’18 in 2018 and stands as the first member of the Crimson to earn both Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Ivy League Pitcher of the Year since Ben Crockett ’02 gained the rookie award in 1999 and the pitcher award in 2022.
Now a two-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Fang led the Ivy League in strikeouts (83), while ranking second in the conference in strikeouts looking (20), fourth in opponent average (.236), fifth in innings pitched (64.0), and sixth in ERA (4.64). During Ivy League play, he paced the league in strikeouts (59), while standing third in opponent average (.196) and fifth in ERA (2.89). Fang also contributed at the plate as a designated hitter, hitting .345 with 19 hits, eight runs, seven RBs, and a home run. In conference play, he hit .333 with 15 hits, seven runs, five RBIs, and a homer.
Rounds – who currently ranks 16th in the NCAA with a .403 batting average – led the Ivy League in batting average (.403) and on-base percentage (.506), while ranking second in hits (60), second in OPS (1.191), third in doubles (16), and fourth in runs (43). During conference play, the 2023 NEIBA New England All-Star ranked third in OPS (1.189), fourth in OBP (.484), fourth in doubles (nine), fifth in slugging (.705), sixth in average (.372), sixth in hits (29), and seventh in home runs (five).
Matson led the Ivy League in opponent average (.22), while ranking second in ERA (3.25), second in strikeouts (77), third in strikeouts looking (19), and sixth in innings pitched (63.2). During Ivy League play, he stood second in the conference in strikeouts (55), third in strikeouts looking (14), fourth in wins (three), sixth in ERA (3.21), and sixth in innings pitched (42.0).
Lybrook ranked ninth in the Ivy League in both batting average (.340) and slugging (.617), while posting 32 hits, 25 runs, five doubles, seven home runs, and 25 RBIs. In conference play, he stood seventh in the league in average (.359), seventh in slugging (.656), seventh in homers (five), and eighth in OPS (1.088), while notching 20 runs, four doubles, 16 RBIs, and a .432 OBP.
Rickheim embraced an increased role during Ivy League play, hitting .283 with 15 hits, six runs, four doubles, 11 RBIs, and a .350 OBP. Overall, he hit .262 with 22 hits, 14 runs, five doubles, one homer, and 19 RBIs, while ranking fifth in the conference in sacrifice bunts (four).
Berger, the team’s captain in 2024, hit .288 on the season with 42 hits, 28 runs, seven doubles, one home run, and 23 RBIs, while leading the league in sacrifice flies (28). A 2023 Ivy League All-Tournament Team honoree and NEIBA New England All-Star as well as a 2022 First Team Academic All-District selection, Berger hit .278 during conference play with 22 hits, 15 runs, four doubles, one homer, and 10 RBIs.
For the season, the Crimson earned at least one win against all seven other Ivy teams.
