Three hitters later, Kyle Vinci blasted a three-run home run to extend Princeton’s lead to four.

Rutgers scored twice in the bottom of the first on an RBI single and groundout to cut its deficit in half. The home team got another run back on an RBI single from Ty Doucette in the second.
Doucette’s RBI groundout in the fourth stanza tied the contest at 4-all.
In the fifth, Rutgers opened up the frame with two singles while an error moved a runner to third base. Pablo Santos then lifted a fly ball to Scannell who caught it and threw out the runner trying to score to keep the game tied.

Rutgers took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Tony Santa Maria in the bottom of the sixth and added another tally on a squeeze bunt from JD Jones in the seventh. Two hitters later, Johnny Volpe homered to right center extending the Rutgers’ advantage to four, 8-4.
Princeton couldn’t put together a rally in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Tigers head to New York City to take on Columbia this weekend for the final series of the regulars season. The two Ivy foes face off in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m., before a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
