PRINCETON – The Princeton Tigers were selected as No. 4 in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, the league announced today.
 
Defending champion Penn was selected No. 1 with all 16 first place votes and 128 points. Columbia (101) was second followed by Harvard (97) and Princeton (87). Rounding out the poll is Yale (66), Cornell (37), Brown (35) and Dartmouth (25).
 
The Tigers finished 24-23 last season and reached the Ivy League Tournament Championship. Princeton’s +17-win differential was the largest change in NCAA Baseball at that time.
 
Some top returners for the Tigers include 2023 First-Team All-Ivy selection Tom Chmielewski, Second-Team All-Ivy honorees Kyle Vinci, Matt Scannell, Caden Shapiro and Honorable Mention All-Ivy pick Jacob Faulkner.
 
Chmielewski saw improvements last season in ERA (3.40), wins (six), complete games (three), shutouts (two), innings (76.2), runs allowed (38), strikeouts (74) and hitters’ batting average against (.246).
 
Vinci broke the Ivy League and Princeton record with 21 home runs while setting a new program record with 61 RBI and 29 extra base hits. Scannell registered 35 runs, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and a .503 slugging percentage. Shapiro had career marks in hits (42), runs (32), doubles (seven), home runs (two), RBI (16), walks (25), average (.286), slugging percentage (.374), and on-base percentage (.401).
 
Faulkner broke the Princeton single season record for appearances with 26, while earning three wins and six saves in 2023.
