Science Pub talks set for September in Corvallis and Lebanon

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University’s Science Pub events return in September with two talks, one in Corvallis focused on Oregon’s beaches and dunes and a bonus talk in Lebanon about beer and wine aromas.

The Corvallis talk will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Old World Deli. The Lebanon event is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at Tallman Brewing. Both can be attended in person or viewed online and are free.

This will be first time an Oregon State Science Pub will be held in Lebanon. There are plans for at least one more in October.

Elissa Connolly-Randazzo, a natural resources policy fellow of Oregon Sea Grant who is hosted as the coastal outreach fellow with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, will talk about the ecology and history of Oregon’s beaches and dunes on Sept. 6 in Corvallis.

She will share information about the importance of these landforms, how they are influenced by vegetation, and how they have historically changed. She will also discuss development guidelines to protect, conserve and/or restore the resources beaches and dunes provide in Oregon.

Elizabeth Tomasino, an associate professor of enology at Oregon State, will talk about tropical fruit aromas in beer and wine Sept. 13 in Lebanon. She will discuss compounds known as volatile thiols and why they drive many of the aromas in hops and white wines.

Registration is required to attend Science Pubs. Here are links to register for the Corvallis event in person or online. Here are links to register for the Lebanon event in person or online.
