Women’s Lacrosse Picked Fourth In Ivy Preseason Poll
ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women’s lacrosse team was picked to place fourth overall in the Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Preseason poll that was announced on Monday afternoon. The Big Red kicks off its 2023 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 18 at UAlbany at 3 p.m.
The Big Red had 77 points, just ahead of Penn (72) and narrowly behind Harvard (81) in the middle of the pack. Princeton was picked to win the league with 126 points and 14 of 16 first place votes, with second-place Yale taking the other two top votes and recording 114 points. Brown (53), Dartmouth (37) and Columbia (16) round out the field in preseason voting.
The Big Red posted an 8-8 record (4-3 Ivy) last spring, making its ninth appearance in 11 all-time Ivy League Tournaments. Despite losing All-American and Ivy Midfielder of the Year Genevieve DeWinter and three-year starting goalkeeper Katie McGahan to graduation, there’s great hopes that a 10th appearance is in the works.
Four senior All-Ivy selections return in 2023, with Katie Castiello and Amanda Cramer on attack, Annie Thomas in the midfield and Hilary Hoover on defense. In all, eight starters return on head coach Jenny Graap‘s senior-laden team.
