Grupo Fantasma to perform at Longhorn City Limits pres by Still Austin Whiskey

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Austin-based Grupo Fantasma will perform at Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey following the Texas-Iowa State game on October 15!  Located on the LBJ Lawn, the concert is FREE admission for all fans and will take place approximately 30 minutes after the Texas-Iowa State game.  Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Formed in 2000, Grupo Fantasma have released seven albums over their illustrious career.  The nine-piece collective has been praised as one of the most important independent acts in the Latin genre and has continually defied expectations to create one of the most unique musical voices in the 21st century.  In 2011, their self-produced release El Existential won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock, Alternative, or Urban Rock Album.  Grupo Fantasma have performed three times on the famed Austin City Limits TV series and made appearances at major festivals including Bonnaroo and ACL Fest.  They have also served as the backing band for and collaborated with legendary artists such as Prince, Sheila-E, Daniel Johnston, Spoon, Los Lobos and many others.

Austin-based Afro Rock band We Don’t Ride Llamas (WDRL) will hit the LCL stage at 9:30 a.m. before the Texas-Iowa State game.  Fronted by Gen Z siblings Chase (lead guitar), Max (vocals), Blake (drums), and Kit (bass), WDRL has been dubbed by The Austin Chronicle as “defiantly unconventional” and cannot resist any good story well told, especially when set to an engaging melody.  The Oracle, their first EP, was released in 2022 and includes the single “Queen Anne’s Revenge” which garnered an Austin Music Award for Best Metal Band.  Throughout their eight short years, WDRL have performed at SXSW, Austin-based Black Fret, and Chicago’s famed Riot Fest among others.  They have provided direct support for Willow Smith, Courtney Barnett, Hiatus Kaiyote, and have also performed with and opened for Jessica Lea Mayfield.  Fresh off their tour with Courtney Barnett, the quartet is currently in the studio, working on their upcoming unnamed LP, while continuing to hone their live performance skills with daily rehearsals.

The LBJ Lawn will open at 8 a.m. with an additional artist for pregame to be announced at a later date.

Fans ages 21 and up can enjoy new signature activations at Longhorn City Limits for the 2022 season. Upon entering the LBJ Lawn, fans are invited to experience the Still Austin Music Lounge serving up a full menu of refreshments including the signature Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade on ice, and to relax in a shaded area while enjoying the show. Fans won’t want to miss surprises and limited edition swag curated by Still Austin Whiskey Co, the homegrown grain-to-glass craft distillery using 100% Texas grains.
