Putting Miami Music Students Center Stage

The Performing Arts Series is proud to announce two new virtual series, presented in partnership with Ricardo Averbach and the Miami University Student Orchestra.  Devised in two parts, these free, on demand musical moments will be presented on the Miami Performing Arts Series YouTube Channel throughout the spring.

Music students will be taking the virtual stage this spring to showcase their skill and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion at Miami in We Gather Together In Music: A Concert Series on Diversity Equity & Inclusion. Ambitious in scope and impressively innovative, the virtual series brings together a global collection of compositions recorded remotely by orchestra members and then knitted together for an awe-inspiring orchestral sound. Each performance will feature short interviews and presentations from partners across all Miami campuses celebrating Miami’s inter-connections.

The Concerto Competition Winners: A Celebration of Miami Student Performers captures the intimate performances of the selected champions of the Music Department’s annual competition. In years past, these lauded students would have been soloists at the MUSO’s spring concerts performing for in-person audiences. This year, they each perform a short recital for the cameras in the elegant setting of the Oxford Community Arts Center ballroom.  Feel the passion and talent of these accomplished student performers as they reprise their winning pieces.

“For decades, the Miami University Symphony Orchestra has accompanied student winners of our yearly Concerto Competition,” notes Ricardo Averbach Director of the Symphony Orchestra. “These are often the first opportunities they perform as soloists with a symphony orchestra and are unforgettable experiences that mark the beginning of the student’s professional careers. This year, the coronavirus prevented us from performing with the winners, who so brilliantly presented themselves in the competition, against all odds.

“The Miami University Symphony Orchestra is proud to release their solo performances under the auspices of the Performing Arts Series, celebrating the talents of our top students in videos that will remain available for your enjoyment.”

“We are excited to turn the spotlight on Miami’s talented student body,” said Patti Hannan Liberatore, Performing Arts Series director. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see and hear our excellent performers, and we are honored to help promote both the concerts and the message of coming together through music.”

Once released, each episode will be available on demand on the Performing Arts Series YouTube channel. Subscribe to the Miami University Performing Arts Series YouTube channel to be notified when new episodes premiere.
