#73 Boston College Earns Hard-Fought 4-1 Victory Over Women’s Tennis

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Cornell women’s tennis team had its five-match win streak halted as No. 73 Boston College earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory on Thursday afternoon at the Margot Connell Recreation Center. The Big Red fell to 5-8, while the Eagles improved to 8-9. Cornell had its two-match win streak against ranked opponents snapped with the loss.

Boston College took the doubles point, though not without a fight. Both the first and second courts went to the tiebreaker knotted at 6-6. Jenny Wong and Lauren Stein gave 35th-ranked Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar all they could handle before falling 7-6. Alexandra Savu and Maria Adiaconitei took the 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles for the Big Red, but the point already sat in BC’s tally at that point.

The Eagles lead expanded to 3-0 after Aguiar completed a three-set win over Lan Mi at No. 1, but Lauren Stein picked up a victory over Natasha Irani at No. 3 after winning the first set and dropping the second 7-5. Irani was forced to default in the third with the two players all square at 5-5. Valerie Ho was up a set at No. 4 in a match that went unfinished after Boston College clinched the win.

The Big Red will continue Ivy competition with matches against Dartmouth (Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.) and Harvard (Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.) to wrap up the weekend.
