Heavyweight Rowing Begins Spring At Harvard

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell heavyweight rowing team will hit the water for competition for the first time when it lines up with Harvard on Saturday, April 2 on the Charles River. It will be the team’s first solo head-to-head race against the Crimson since 2017 when the crews raced at Princeton.

Unlike most of Cornell’s varsity teams, which missed the entire spring of 2020 and the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Red was able to taste competition last spring. Cornell was able to welcome Hobart and Marist to the Cayuga Lake Inlet, with the Varsity 8 claiming victory. Cornell will be rowing for the second time this school year on the Charles, finishing fourth at the historic Head of the Charles Regatta in October.

Head coach Todd Kennett‘s team continues to mourn the passing of Big Red captain Jack Robinson, celebrating his life last weekend in Boston as a team. The Big Red will spend the season dedicating its efforts to his memory.
