Frechette Named 2022 ECAC Hockey Best Forward
ITHACA, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey announced Tuesday afternoon that Cornell women’s hockey junior forward Gillis Frechette has been named the ECAC Hockey Best Forward for the 2021-22 season.
Frechette — who was named to the All-ECAC Hockey first team over the weekend — finished the season as ECAC Hockey’s leading scorer in league games, scoring 10 goals to go with 26 assists for 36 points in 22 contests. Her plus-25 rating over those games were also best in the league.
Frechette steadily improved her offensive output throughout the season. The crescendo brought her to a remarkable nine multi-point efforts in her last 12 games of the regular season and a stellar 23 points over that stretch.
This marks the fourth time that Cornell has captured the honor for the league’s top forward since the award’s inception in 2008 (with the caveat that up until 2015, the award was for Best Defensive Forward), though she is the first Cornell junior to claim it. The others – Brianne Jenner ’15, Chelsea Karpenko ’12 and Karlee Overguard ’11 – won the accolade after their respective senior seasons.
The other finalists for this year’s ECAC Hockey Best Forward were Yale’s Elle Hartje and Harvard’s Kristin Della Rovere.
