Women’s Athletics wins 2023-24 Capital One Cup
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas has won the Capital One Cup for Women’s Athletics for the recently completed 2023-24 season. This marks the third consecutive year that the Longhorns have claimed the title in the Women’s Cup standings, as Texas also captured the Cup in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
This year’s announcement was made during the ESPYS presented by Capital One on Thursday evening. As in previous years, Capital One will be donating $250,000 to The University of Texas Student Athlete Scholarship Fund in addition to receiving the Capital One Cup trophy.
During the 2023-24 season, Texas earned 156 total points to narrowly defeat runner-up Stanford (155) in the Women’s Cup standings. Florida (102), UCLA (70) and Oklahoma (66) rounded out the top five spots in this year’s Women’s standings. The Longhorns boasted six women’s teams that scored points this year in the Capital One Cup, including Volleyball (60), Softball (36), Rowing (20), Basketball (18), Swimming & Diving (12) and Outdoor Track & Field (10).
The Capital One Cup originated during the 2010-11 season. The Texas women claimed the Capital One Cup for the first time in 2021-22, as the Longhorns posted 145 points and Stanford finished second with 97 points. Last year, Texas tallied 122 points to top runner-up Stanford with 119 points.
