Three To Semis, Three In The Blood Round As Wrestling Moves To Third

TULSA, Okla. — Three Cornell wrestlers advanced to the semifinals, clinching All-America honors, and three more remain in contention to reach the podium as the Big Red jumped to third in the team standings after Session III on Friday afternoon at the BOK Center. Senior Yainni Diakomihalis remained alive in his quest for a fourth NCAA title by becoming the school’s eighth four-time All-American, while Vito Arujau become the 13th to earn All-America honors at least three times. Junior Chris Foca’s appearance in the semifinals signals his first national honor, the 49th Big Red grappler so honored.

Three Big Red wrestlers – Brett Ungar at 125, Julian Ramirez at 165 and Jacob Cardenas at 197 – will wrestle in the round of 12 on Friday evening to claim a spot on the podium as first-time All-Americans when Session IV kicks off at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET).

With 45.5 team points, Cornell enters Friday evening just 2.5 points behind Iowa for second, though both trail Penn State (78.0) at the top of the leader board. That came as Cornell went 9-1 in the session to climb up from sixth place.
