Nelly to headline Longhorn City Limits pres. by Still Austin Whiskey on Oct. 1

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Diamond selling, multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning rap superstar, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and actor, Nelly will headline Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey prior to Texas Football’s game versus West Virginia on October 1.  Located on the LBJ Lawn, the concert is FREE admission for all fans.

Born in Austin, Nelly has continually raised the bar for the entertainment industry since stepping on the scene in 2000 with his distinctive vocals and larger-than-life personality.  In 1993, he embarked on his music career with Midwest hip hop group St. Lunatics.  He entered the spotlight with the release of Country Grammar in 2000, spending seven weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and spawning the massive hits “Ride Wit Me”, “Country Grammar”, and “E.I.”.  Nelly kept the momentum going with the 2002 release of Nellyville, debuting at #1 on top of scoring two Grammy Awards for “Hot in Here” and “Dilemma” [feat. Kelly Rowland].  The album was certified 6x multi-platinum by the RIAA.  He has since gone on to win multiple American Music Awards, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, Soul Train Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and was crowned “Top Pop, Rap, and R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” by Billboard.  Nelly is the fourth best-selling rap artist in American music history, with over 21 million albums sold in the United States.  In 2009, Billboard ranked Nelly the number three Top Artist of the decade.  His Country Grammar album and hit song “Cruise” with Florida Georgia Line both achieved Diamond status in 2016.

“The crowds at Longhorn City Limits have been phenomenal through the first three games,” said Chris Del Conte, Vice President and Athletics Director.  “We are so excited to welcome Nelly, one of the leading artists in the millennium, to the Forty Acres on October 1 and can’t wait for Longhorn Nation to be part of a record crowd at LCL.”

The LBJ Lawn will open at 3 p.m. on October 1 with Nelly scheduled to hit the stage at 5 p.m.  Joining Nelly on the lineup is Austin-based multifaceted artist Jake Lloyd.  Working closely with his longtime bandmate and producer Danny Saldivar, also known as DSII, the two have crafted out a signature sound fusing soul, R&B, hip hop, alt rock, and many other genres.  From his 2018 debut self-titled album to Geto Gala, his 2021 collaboration EP with fellow Austin artist Deezie Brown, Jake’s success has made him a new prominent face in Austin music, solidified by receiving a grant from Black Fret in 2021.

The fan-favorite silent disco returns to Longhorn City Limits following the game. Featuring three live DJs, participating fans receive a pair of wireless headphones and the ability to choose between three different channels.

Fans ages 21 and up can enjoy new signature activations at Longhorn City Limits for the 2022 season. Upon entering the LBJ Lawn, fans are invited to experience the Still Austin Music Lounge serving up a full menu of refreshments including the signature Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade on ice, and to relax in a shaded area while enjoying the show. Fans won’t want to miss surprises and limited-edition swag curated by Still Austin Whiskey Co, the homegrown grain-to-glass craft distillery using 100% Texas grains.

Come relax at the Tito’s Tailgate to enjoy refreshing Tito’s cocktails on tap, shaded views of the stage, and college football live streaming to tailgate in real Texas fashion.

Concert goers can also enjoy Stubb’s BBQ and take a photo in front of the LCL guitar monument located on the west curb of the LBJ Lawn closest to Robert Dedman Drive.
